Chelsea vs Sheffield Wednesday

This 4th round game is played at Stamford Bridge and Higuain makes his debut. Nothing happens for 19 minutes until Kovacic releases Gonzalo Higuain into the right channel for his first chance but he is tracked by Lees, who makes a vital deflection to divert the ball out of play. In the 22nd minute Pelupessy is played through the Chelsea defence but is taken down by Ethan Amapadu in the box. The Referee points to the spot but VAR overalls the decision. 2 minutes later and a penalty is given to Chelsea after a late challenge on Azpilicueta in the Sheffield Wednesday box. Willian steps up to take the penalty and he jogs towards the ball stuttering once to throw off the goalkeeper and strikes it into the top right corner putting Chelsea into the lead after 26 minutes. The game enters a stalemate until half time.

5 minutes after half time Reach almost scores for Sheffield Wednesday but the ball comes back off of the post .14 minutes after the Sheffield chance Callum Hudson-Odoi has a chance and takes it for the 18 years old 2nd goal this season and Chelsea’s 2nd. For long periods of the game nothing happens, until the 83rd minute when Willian scores Chelsea 3rd and his 2nd. He and Giroud play one-two on the edge of the box and Willian strikes the ball beautifully to make it 3-0 Chelsea. 4 minutes later and Giroud attempts a spectacular but off target overhead kick. This is the last chance for this 4th round tie with Sheffield being knocked out and Chelsea with the 3-0 win. Chelsea had a gob smacking 80% possession of the ball compared to Sheffield’s 20%.

That’s it for this week, Charlie
